A spectacular debut for Jio platforms marked an otherwise tough week for markets. Just when everyone worried about what would happen on listing day, Jio spectacularly proved critics wrong. A strong listing premium and standout performance in an otherwise weak market positioned the Jio story well among largecaps.
In global markets, gold and silver fell. They broke down and closed below all expected support levels. The AI story too came apart in global markets. Indian stocks that had earlier gained strength from the AI trade were aggressively sold off. Selling intensity increased in small caps and mid caps.
All this left investors with nowhere to hide. When everything goes down, investors must show conviction in a specific asset class. Within that asset class, investors need to identify pockets of value to focus upon. These pockets of value will provide investors a safe haven to hide.
The question that needs to be answered in the coming weeks is simple. “Can Indian largecaps provide a safe haven for investors?” The coming week should give us decisive answers.
